Temporary ramp closure tonight and upcoming lane reductions scheduled for I-29 near 32nd Avenue South
March 16, 2017
Southbound exit ramp closing tonight only, intermittent lane closures on interstate coming next week during off-peak travel times
As a reminder, tonight starting at 10 p.m., crews will be removing the overhead interstate signage on the southbound Interstate 29 (I-29) exit ramp onto 32nd Ave. S. The ramp closure will last about two hours and traffic will be detoured to the 52nd Avenue South interstate exit. The eastbound left-turn lane on the southbound 32nd Ave. S off-ramp is currently closed with the first phase of project work.
Starting next week on Monday, March 20, crews will begin setting construction barriers along the shoulder of I-29 to support the 32nd Avenue South reconstruction and bridge widening project. One driving lane of I-29 will be reduced as crews move through the area to set the barriers on the interstate shoulder. This will create a safe work area for the contractors working under the bridge.
Two driving lanes on I-29 in each direction will be maintained when project work allows. There may be periods when motorists will encounter one open driving lane due to the placement of needed safety barriers for work occurring under the overpass.
Speeds will be reduced while crews are present to 40 mph. Crews will begin setting barriers on the west side of southbound I-29. Flaggers will be present to assist contractor truck traffic with entering and exiting the work zone.
Time restrictions for lane reductions on I-29 have been put in place to keep traffic moving through the area during peak travel in Fargo. In this first phase, two driving lanes of I-29 traffic will remain open between:
– 7 – 9 a.m. for northbound
– 4 – 6 p.m. for southbound
When a lane closure is in effect for southbound and northbound I-29 traffic:
– Outside lane closures will start after the 32nd Ave. S exit ramps and will not interfere with ramp traffic
– Inside lane closures will start further away from the bridge in each direction, near mile marker 62 for both north and southbound traffic.
Once the barriers are set on the shoulders, the shoulders will remain closed to drivers throughout the duration of the 32nd Ave. S bridge project.
On 32nd Ave. S, traffic is currently one lane in each direction using the outside driving lane with separate left-turn lanes as crews remove the median and install temporary traffic signals. Speeds are reduced to 25 mph. The recommended alternative routes for travel to the 32nd Ave S corridor will be via Interstate 94 (I-94) and 40th Avenue South, as well as 25th Street South, 42nd Street South and 45th Street South.
