Traffic switch starts tomorrow on west end of 32nd Avenue work zone
March 29, 2017
Beginning Thursday, March 30, contractors for the 32nd Avenue South reconstruction and Interstate 29 (I-29) bridge project will be shifting traffic on the west side of the work zone, where they have finished removing medians and installing temporary traffic signals.
Starting tomorrow, all traffic west of the 32nd Ave. and 39th Street intersection will move to the south side of the road, so crews can begin removals and grading on the north side of 32nd Ave. Westbound drivers will have two lanes and eastbound drivers will have one lane, plus separate turn lanes.
East of the 39th St. intersection, traffic will remain one lane in each direction using the outside driving lane with separate left-turn lanes. Here, crews will continue median removals and start installing temporary traffic signals and a storm sewer. Through the entire work zone on 32nd Ave., speeds remain reduced to 25 mph and Fargo Police Department is conducting traffic blitzes to reduce speeding.
As work progresses on the I-29 bridge, drivers may experience a short-term lane closure on either side of the interstate, lasting only a few hours at times during the next day or two. This is necessary to create a safe work area for contractors working under the bridge, but will only be conducted during off-peak travel times. Two driving lanes on both sides of I-29 will be maintained when project work allows and speeds are reduced to 40 mph.
The recommended alternative routes for travel to the 32nd Ave. corridor are Interstate 94 (I-94) and 40th Avenue South, as well as 25th Street South, 42nd Street South and 45th Street South.
