19th Avenue North Asphalt Overlay Complete

August 26, 2020
Today, August 26, the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) contractors removed all traffic control and reopened all lanes on 19th Avenue North between I-29 and Dakota Drive to traffic. This section of roadway received an asphalt overlay to extend the roadway’s lifespan.
Motorists can now expect the following traffic pattern along 19th Avenue North between I-29 and Dakota Drive:
- OPEN: Two lanes in each direction; traffic carried on their respective sides
Throughout the remainder of the week, crews will have temporary intermittent lane closures to complete permanent pavement markings.
An asphalt overlay is a paving method of applying a new layer of asphalt to a deteriorating surface. Rather than tearing up an old roadway surface entirely, an asphalt overlay project uses the existing layers as a base for the new asphalt pavement.
