Crews Move to Next Block of 10th Street North Project June 27
June 26, 2018
Wednesday crews start roadway improvements on the next block between 10 – 11th Avenues and paving operations begin at 9th Avenue intersection
Over the first month of construction activity, contractors for the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) Fargo District and City of Fargo 10th Street North road reconstruction and infrastructure improvement project have been busy with roadway and underground work between the blocks of 8th – 10th Avenues, including the 9th Avenue N intersection, and started project work to upgrade the area lift station between 4th – 6th Avenues under the railroad underpass. A single lane of northbound 10th Street N and southbound University Drive are carried head-to-head on University Drive, which is typically a one-way roadway, to accommodate all of the project work.
Coming this week, crews will move one block north and south of the current work zone area on 10th Street N.
Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, June 27, between the blocks of 10th – 11th Avenues crew will begin to break up the existing concrete roadway and underground work closing this block to local traffic.
Another project crew will move south to enter the block between 7th – 8th Avenues on Monday, July 2, weather permitting.
When both crews have shifted to the next north and south blocks of the reconstruction project, these blocks of 10th Street N will not be accessible to drivers:
- 10th Street between 4th – 6th Avenue
- 10th Street between 7th – 8th Avenue, with both intersections OPEN to cross traffic
- 10th Street between 8th – 10th Avenue, with 9th Avenue N intersections CLOSED to cross traffic
This week crews also started to back-fill and grade the 10th Street N and 9th Avenue N intersection. Starting tomorrow, crews will begin paving operations through this intersection. After the completion of the 9th Avenue N intersection improvements and the intersection is open, crews will close the intersections of 8th and 10th Avenue to cross traffic in the coming weeks.
As work continues to progress, the roadway construction activity will be limited to no more than half the project at a time through the residential area. Local-traffic only is maintained in the blocks between 6th – 12th Avenues where crews have not started breaking up existing roadway.
With corridor improvements, proper sight lines for safety are reviewed during project design. In this eight-block roadway construction project, trees were identified for removal to help with safety and visibility for all users and to meet current federal requirements. Removal of trees will be ongoing throughout the construction activity.
Throughout the duration of the reconstruction and infrastructure improvement project:
- DRIVER DETOUR ROUTE: University Drive between 4th – 12th Avenue N, one-lane in each direction with left-hand turn lanes
- BIKE DETOUR ROUTE: 11th Street N, 4th and 6th Avenue N, and Roberts Street
- SIDEWALKS: Maintained for use on both sides of 10th Street N including the west sidewalk through the railroad underpass
As a reminder, this construction project is to replace aging infrastructure and continuing the city-wide effort to upgrade services for residents and businesses on 10th Street N from 4th Avenue N to 12th Avenue N. By the completion of the project in late fall, north Fargo drivers, residents and businesses will have new concrete driving surface, new curb and gutter, street lights, sidewalks, city utilities, and the installation of a 30” sanitary sewer force main.
