Public Input Meeting Scheduled for May 8 to Discuss Main Avenue Reconstruction in Downtown Fargo
May 7, 2018
The City of Fargo and NDDOT will be hosting a joint public input meeting on Tuesday, May 8, to discuss the Main Avenue reconstruction project in the Fargo City Commission Room within Fargo City Hall (200 Third Street North). There will be a formal presentation at 4 p.m., followed by an open house being offered until 6 p.m. The plan being discussed involves the reconstruction of Main Avenue between 2nd Street and University Drive in 2019. The work will include new pavement, new underground utilities, new sidewalks, new traffic signals, new street lights and landscaping features. The NDDOT, City of Fargo and SRF Consulting Group will all have staff members on hand to discuss the proposed project and answer any questions.
Recent progress has been made to refine the alternatives for Main Avenue, with four proposals still under consideration. Additional information on the remaining alternatives, including 3-D animations, are available by clicking on the 2019 Main Avenue button at http://www.FargoStreets.com.
This reconstruction project is designed to provide an enhanced business environment with an active, safe and convenient environment for pedestrians, while still providing a safe and efficient transportation corridor to support regional and local traffic needs. The project will replace aging corridor infrastructure (pavement, sewer, water and storm sewer) and address pedestrian system deficiencies. The project has the potential to encourage investment and redevelopment throughout a reinvented corridor that is fully integrated into the urban fabric of Downtown Fargo, while continuing to serve as one of the three downtown gateways providing a vital connection to Moorhead.
