Two north side intersections in 32nd Avenue work zone reopen, another closure coming later this week
April 25, 2017
FARGO, N.D. (April 25, 2017) – Contractors for the 32nd Avenue reconstruction and Interstate 29 (I-29) bridge project have reopened two north side intersections that had temporarily been impacted by project work. The intersection of 32nd Ave. and Sienna Drive was completely closed, but has reopened to traffic in all directions. The intersection of 32nd Ave. and 39th St. S was open to northbound traffic only, but is now open to northbound and southbound drivers. Lanes remain reduced at the intersection of 32nd Ave. and 41st Street S, open to northbound traffic only with all southbound drivers detoured to 31st Avenue S. The detour route at 30th Avenue S. has been lifted, meaning the 4-way-stop at 30th Ave. and 42nd Street S is removed. These temporary intersection closures are necessary as crews replace cracked or deteriorating pavement through the work zone.
The current traffic pattern on 32nd Ave. is:
- WEST OF 39th St S – Side-by-side traffic on the south side of the road, with westbound using two lanes and eastbound drivers using one lane, plus separate turn lanes for both directions; lanes reduced at 41st St. S intersection
- EAST OF 36th St S –Side-by-side traffic carried on the south side through the east end of the work zone, one lane in each direction with separate turn lanes; all intersections open
- I-29 BRIDGE – Side-by-side traffic carried on the north side, with one lane and a turn lane open in each direction
- SW and SE I-29 Loop Ramps – Closed for improvements, all intersection access maintained via ramps on the north side of 32nd Ave.
By the end of this week, a short term intersection closure is coming to the north side of 32nd Ave. at 33rd Street S, near Sanford Healthcare Accessories. The closure will only last one to two days, and crews will add temporary access to businesses between 32nd Street S and 33rd St. S via 32nd Ave.
The next major project impact will be late next week or early the following week, weather permitting. At this time, 36th Street S will close south of 32nd Avenue and traffic will be rerouted to 32nd Street S and 35th Avenue S. This closure will last approximately three weeks and is necessary while crews widen 36th St. by adding an extra thru lane and northbound left turn lane. Additional reminders about this major closure will be sent prior to any impacts.
Drivers through the work zone are reminded to slow down, eliminate distractions and pay attention to signs through this dynamic work zone. Speeds remain reduced to 25 mph on 32nd Ave. and 45 mph on I-29, and Fargo Police and North Dakota Highway Patrol are monitoring speeds. Recommended alternative routes to the 32nd Ave. corridor are Interstate 94 (I-94) and 40th Avenue South, as well as 25th Street South, 42nd Street South and 45th Street South. Pedestrians should also find alternate routes, such as 40th Ave. S or the underpass, as the bike trail on 32nd Ave. is closed.
